Over the years and decades, I’ve had to change the way I apply lip color. At 40, I simply applied lip liner to avoid “feathering”. Sometime after 50, those fine lines around my lips deepened, and avoiding “feathering and bleeding” into the creases has become much more complicated.
I have developed two strategies, one for everyday, and a second for more formal or evening occasions:
1. I apply foundation to the area around my lips, and blend into the lip line.

I follow this with AVON’s Beyond Color Lip Conditioner, carefully applied to the upper and lower lip. Then I use just a bit of a neutral color lipstick (I like Beyond Color Lipstick in Twig) on the lower lip, and press my lips together to blend. The color never reaches the lip line, so I don’t have any feathering, just natural looking lips with a hint of color.

- When I need to be more "camera ready", I use concealer under the foundation around my lips to create a more feather-proof surface. I outline my lips with Glimmersticks Lip Liner, blot, and fill in with Beyond Color Lipstick in a coordinating shade.
